Job summary

Scotland Health Care System in Laurinburg, NC seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to prepare operating rooms for procedures, pass instruments, and support the surgical team. This full-time role on the 2nd shift requires strict aseptic technique and excellent communication.

You will work closely with circulating RN and surgeons, maintain sterility, and help with room setup, instrument counts, and patient positioning. Our team emphasizes care for patients and professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for procedures by setting up instruments aseptically.
• Inspect equipment and packaging for sterility and function.
• Utilize sterilization principles in processing instruments.
• Prepare operating room field and hand washing per standards.
• Anticipate surgeon needs for instruments and sutures.
• Keep the operative field neat, clean and dry.
• Identify and pass specimens to the circulating nurse after verifying with the surgeon.
• Report prosthesis, drains and catheters to the circulating nurse.
• Dispose of used supplies according to procedure.
• Assist with room cleanup and restock of supplies.
• Return reusable equipment to proper storage.
• Count sponges, instruments, and sharps before incision and after closure.
• Assist in positioning the patient on the table.
• Support continuity of patient care during breaks and on-call periods.
• Age-specific care across the life span.
