Job summary

CommonSpirit Health in Utah is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech to support the operating room under the supervision of the surgeon and RN. You will keep the OR organized and sterile for safe, efficient procedures and pass items to the team as needed throughout surgeries.

You will also assist with patient preparation, moving, and post-case instrument sterilization. Must maintain sterile technique, stay calm under pressure, and communicate effectively as part of a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-call coverage outside standard hours per policy.
• Anticipate potential problems or complications during case.
• Adjust quickly for emergent cases and changes in workflow.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Surgical Tech, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, bringing your certified expertise to keep the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures.

Every day, you will arrange and inventory sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure. You will also assist in preparing and moving patients, along with sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.

To be successful in this role, you will need current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, solid knowledge of sterile technique, and the ability to stay calm and communicate effectively as part of a fast-paced surgical team.

Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators and opening procedures.

• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed and as needed.


• Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating needs of the surgeon and through the use of the surgeon’s preference card.


• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.


• Ability to provide oncall coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.


• Anticipates possible problems or complications that could arise during case.


• Adjusts quickly and prepares for emergent cases that change workflow.

Must be available to take call.

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Diploma/G.E.D.


• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.


• Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association


• Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado. * A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech


• Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Preferred

• One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting


• Experience in a specialty field

Pay Range

$26.37 - $39.90 /hour
