Job summary

Exeter Hospital, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is seeking an experienced surgical support professional to assist the surgical team before, during, and after procedures. The role emphasizes sterile technique, instrument handling, and collaboration with the circulating RN to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities include preparing instruments, counts, gowning and gloving assistance, and maintaining a sterile field throughout procedures.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary training or equivalent experience.
• CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
• Medical Tech Registration.

Responsibilities

• Prepares equipment and instruments on the back table and Mayo stand using sterile technique.
• Counts sponge and sharps with the circulating RN and maintains documentation.
• Assists surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, and handing instruments throughout the procedure.
• Cuts suture material as directed and assists with tissue retraction.
• Maintains a sterile field and ensures proper handling of instruments and supplies.
• Applies dressings at case completion and adheres to universal precautions.
• May assist as second circulator and update preference cards.
• Participates in special projects as requested.

Assists surgical team before during and after surgery with equipment and supplies.

Requirements

Major Responsibilities

• Prepares equipment and instruments on the back table and Mayo stand utilizing sterile technique.
• Performs sponge; sharps; etc. count with circulating RN ( if applicable).
• Assists surgeon with gowning and gloving; draping and throughout the procedure with supplies and instruments.
• Cuts suture material as directed; retracts and sponges tissue as directed by surgeon.
• Maintains organized sterile field with equipment and supplies throughout procedure.
• Applies dressing at completion of procedure as applicable.
• Maintains universal precautions in removing draping material and handling/containing instruments; equipment; linen and disposable items.
• May assist; as directed by circulating RN; as second circulator in room.
• Picks cases and updates preference cards.
• Assists with special projects as requested.

Pay Range

$33.50 - $49.78 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
