Job summary

Indiana University Health seeks a part-time Surgical Technologist to join the surgery team. The role supports procedures before, during, and after operations, ensuring the presence and proper setup of equipment and instrumentation.

You will assist surgeons in the OR as allowed, and help turnover with specimen processing and instrument handling. The position is day shift, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with no weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist NBSTSA within four months of employment is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Ability to resource advanced technology as needed.
  • Accumulate 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
  • Knowledge of various surgical procedures to anticipate needs and recognize problems.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation and their functions.
  • Maintain sterile field per policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in presence and arrangement of surgical equipment and instrumentation prior to operations.
  • Assist the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by standards.
  • Support turnover of the operating room after procedures, including processing specimens and supplies.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs, and other surgical staff to ensure smooth procedures.

This position is a part-time, day shift role working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. No weekends or holidays required.

Surgical Skilled Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. They assist in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. They provide assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. They assist in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. They work as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA within four months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Ability to resource advanced technology.
  • 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
  • Knowledge of various surgical procedures to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and recognize problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of the name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
