Job summary

Indiana University Health Fishers Hospital in Indiana seeks a Surgical Skilled Technologist to join the operating room team. You will ensure the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation before each operation and assist the surgeon as allowed.

Requires High School Diploma/GED, NBSTSA certification within four months, Basic Life Support, and 15 CEUs annually. Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical procedures is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist within four months of employment.
• Basic Life Support Certification required.
• Ability to complete 15 CEUs annually as required by state law.
• Knowledge of various surgical procedures to anticipate surgeon needs.
• Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
• Adherence to sterile field policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assists in ensuring presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation.
• Assists the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards.
• Assists in turnover of the operating room after the procedure, ensuring proper routing and processing of specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
• Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

This is a full-time day shift, working either 4 10's from 6:30am-5:00pm or 5 8's 11:00am-7:30pm. Call is required. Intermittent weekends and holidays are a possibility.

Surgical Skilled Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

Requires a High School Diploma/GED.

• Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA within four months of employment.
• Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
• Requires the ability to resource advanced technology.
• Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
• Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.
• Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
• Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
