Indiana University Health Methodist is seeking a Surgical Technologist for a full-time day shift in downtown Indianapolis, supporting the operating room before, during, and after procedures with proper equipment and instrumentation preparation.

You will join a team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and other staff, and must obtain NBSTSA CST within four months, plus BLS; 15 CEUs annually; a high school diploma is required.

Qualifications

  • Certification as NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist within four months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Ability to utilize advanced surgical technology and instrumentation.
  • Fifteen continuing education units annually as required by state law.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies, and instrumentation in the operating room.
  • Assist the surgeon and the surgical team during procedures as allowed by professional and legal standards.
  • Support turnover of the operating room after procedures, including routing and processing specimens, equipment, and supplies.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel as a team member.

Overview

IU Health Methodist proudly anchors downtown Indianapolis as a Level 1 Trauma facility, featuring 29 state-of-the-­art Operating suites. Our expertise spans diverse specialties, including Trauma, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, Vascular, Neurology, and General Surgery. From tackling complex cases to addressing the challenges of Trauma injuries, we provide critical care for high acuity patients across various clinical specialties.

This is a full time day shift role working 3 12's. Call required.

Surgical Skilled Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

Requires a High School Diploma/GED.

  • Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA within four months of employment.
  • Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Requires the ability to resource advanced technology.
  • Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
  • Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.
  • Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
