Job summary

The Surgical Coordinator handles scheduling, intake, and communication for surgical operations, coordinating with surgeons, patients, staff, and insurers to ensure timely, accurate processes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years of clerical, administrative or secretarial work preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, medical coding and anatomy preferred.
• Skilled with medical record software, word processing and database programs.

Responsibilities

• Handle all incoming calls for the surgery department and direct inquiries.
• Guide patients through intake, sign-in, chart gathering and insurance verification.
• Schedule equipment, procedure rooms and maintain surgical inventory.
• Understand surgical procedures to maintain accurate scheduling.
• Log urgent information with surgery department, providers and secretaries.
• Create and send pre-op orders; coordinate labs and tests per protocol.
• Update surgery department with patient scheduling details and post-op data.
