Job summary

Indiana University Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to serve as the primary patient-facing resource for scheduling in-person surgical procedures. You will communicate with physicians, patients, the surgery center, and the prior authorization team to coordinate scheduling and provide prep instructions.

The role requires a Medical Assistant certification, graduation from a MA program, and knowledge of ICD-10/CPT coding. BLS certification and OSHA/CLIA/ADA knowledge are expected.

Qualifications

  • AHA BLS for healthcare workers certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required.
  • Current certification as CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or CMAC.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • TB validation or within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • Familiarity with insurance processes and third-party payers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary patient-facing resource for scheduling in-person surgical procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with physicians, patients, the surgery center, and the prior authorization team.
  • Review medications and provide procedure instructions to patients.
  • Coordinate procedure scheduling and communicate appointment details and prep instructions.
  • Contact patients by phone regarding rescheduling and prior authorization updates.
  • Submit surgery clearance forms and ensure timely follow-up of documentation.
  • Monitor physician schedules to keep templates filled and slots utilized.
  • Collaborate with providers and staff to maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Assist in obtaining information to support insurance approvals.
  • Use Cerner and other tools to manage messages and coordinate care.
