Job summary

Smith+Nephew, based in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a Software Development Engineer to design and implement software for robotic and computer-assisted surgical applications. You will work at the intersection of innovation, engineering excellence, and meaningful healthcare impact.

You will prototype, test, and improve system accuracy and usability, collaborating with engineering, clinical, and research partners to resolve complex problems across project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; Master’s preferred.
• 3+ years of experience developing large-scale C++ applications in Linux/Unix.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts.
• Experience with software development tools such as Git, JIRA, Make, and CMake.
• Knowledge of applied linear algebra, UI or graphical application development, and MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Designing and implementing software for robotic and computer assisted surgical applications
• Developing, documenting, and executing tests to ensure software performance, reliability, and safety
• Prototyping and innovating solutions that improve system accuracy, usability, and performance
• Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, clinical, and research partners
• Contributing to technical discussions and solving complex problems across project teams
