Job summary

IU Health North Hospital is seeking motivated Certified Surgical Technologists to join our surgical team. You will help prepare, assist, and turnover operating rooms for a variety of procedures in a fast-paced setting.

The weekend day shift from 6:30am to 7:00pm offers exposure to orthopedics, general surgery, colorectal, urology, gynecology and cancer care, with full adherence to sterile technique and instrumentation protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• 17 continuing education units annually required.
• Preceptor training or equivalent completed.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in the Skilled Tech role or relevant experience.
• Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
• Adherence to sterile field policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare OR with instruments, supplies, and equipment before procedures.
• Assist surgeon in the operating room as allowed by standards.
• Support turnover of OR and processing of specimens and equipment.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses as part of the surgical team.

This is a special weekend option working weekend day shift from 6:30am-7:00pm with one additional day during the week.

Surgical Resource Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

• Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
• Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA.
• Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
• Requires 17 continuing education units annually.
• Requires successful completion of Perioperative Services Preceptor class and/or completion of 4 precepting eLMS modules and/or facility based preceptor training.
• Requires a minimum of 1 year experience in the Skilled Technologist role or relevant experience.
• Must be able to resource to other staff who are utilizing advanced technology in cases, including knowledge of the types of instruments utilized, what cases utilize different technologies, etc.
• Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
• Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
• Requires completion of application and recommendations as prescribed in Advancement Process.
