Henry Ford Health is seeking a Surgical Reprocessing Technician / Educator based in Detroit to plan, implement, and evaluate educational activities for sterile reprocessing and high-level disinfection. Surgical Reprocessing Technician / Educator

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Sterile Reprocessing Manager and in collaboration with the System Director of Sterile Reprocessing, SPD/HLD Nurse Educators, and Infection Prevention, plans, implements, and evaluates educational and quality improvement activities in departments that perform sterile reprocessing and high-level disinfection.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• 1. Collaborates with the Manager, System Director of Sterile Reprocessing, SPD/HLD Nurse Educators, and Surgical Reprocessing staff to determine learning needs.
• 2. Develops, implements, and evaluates educational plans and programs utilizing adult learning theory.
• 3. Develops and utilizes measurement tools to evaluate achievement of learning goals.
• 4. Serves as an educational consultant for staff and leaders.
• 5. Models and teaches effective communication, positive problem-solving techniques, and healthy work environment standards.
• 6. Participates on committees and task forces as needed.
• 7. Participates in development, coordination, presentation, and evaluation of mandatory educational activities.
• 8. Demonstrates current theoretical and practical knowledge for assigned area.
• 9. Collaborates in the development and revision of policies, guidelines, and procedures for education related to activities to improve the performance of sterile reprocessing staff.
• 10. Participates in continuous quality improvement and risk management.
• 11. Meets the educational needs of off-shift and weekend employees.
• 12. Partners with leaders to conduct audits related to regulatory standards.
• 13. Assists with preceptor development, orientee onboarding, scheduling, and orientation.
• 14. Documents staff education and maintains records.
• 15. Supports certification and monitors recertification of staff as required.
• 16. Selects and utilizes audiovisual equipment appropriately.
• 17. Reviews oneSOURCE (online document management service) for updates and plans and implements related education.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Graduate of Sterile Reprocessing College Course or Sterile Reprocessing Military experience preferred.
• Equivalent of five (5) years of surgical reprocessing experience required.
• Broad computer skills including Microsoft Software (Word, PowerPoint) required.
• Experience with SPM (instrument tracking system) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work environment is in a comfortable indoor area.

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Full Time - Day Shift - 40 hours per week
