Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a dedicated Sterile Processing Technician to clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments used across inpatient and operating room settings. You will ensure proper packaging, sterilization methods, and accurate documentation to support patient safety.

You will coordinate with surgical teams to prepare procedure carts, manage stock levels, and participate in orientation and ongoing education to meet department standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and hospital personnel.
• Completion of the 120-day orientation and ongoing education.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, inspects, assembles, packages, disinfects, and sterilizes all surgical products used in inpatient, outpatient, operating room, emergency room, delivery room, and satellite departments.
• Documents and monitors all sterilization processes (steam, ETOH, Sterrad, and high-level disinfectants) to ensure compliance with established standards.
• Receives, unpacks, shelves, and stocks supplies while maintaining appropriate par levels and rotation principles for sterile supply management.
• Coordinates with surgical specialty teams to prepare procedure-specific case carts according to surgeon preference cards, ensuring all necessary supplies, equipment, instruments, and implants are available for each patient.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of medical terminology course is preferred. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and hospital personnel.
• Completion of the 120-day orientation:
  • Successfully completes department and hospital orientation process
  • Competence maintained during evaluation year to include department standards, objectives, in service and continuing education.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Central Service Certification.
• BCLS preferred.
