Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical operations in inpatient and outpatient settings, including the operating room and delivery areas. You will sterilize and assemble instruments, document processes, and ensure case carts and supplies are ready for procedures.

Requirements include a high school diploma and completion of orientation; Central Service Certification is preferred, and basic life support is advantageous.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of medical terminology course is preferred.
• Interpersonal and communication skills with patients and hospital personnel.
• Completion of the 120-day orientation with department standards and continuing education.
• Central Service Certification.
• BCLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean, inspect, assemble, package, disinfect/sterilize all surgical products used to support physicians and surgical team in inpatient, outpatient, OR, ED, Delivery Room and satellites.
• Document and monitor all sterilization processes (steam, ETOH, Sterrad, high-level disinfectants).
• Prepare case carts according to surgeons' preference card for supplies, equipment, instruments and implants needed for each patient.
• Stock and stock rotation of sterile supplies to maintain appropriate par levels.
• Coordinate with surgical teams to ensure supplies are available when needed.

Job Description

• Department:Sterile Processing

Under general supervision of the Coordinator/Manager/Director cleans, inspects, assembles, packages disinfects/sterilizes all surgical products used to support physicians and surgical team in the inpatient, outpatient departments, Operating room, Emergency Room, Delivery Room and satellites. Documents and monitors all sterilization processes in assigned areas including but not limited to: steam, ETOH, Sterrad and high-level disinfectants. Ensures all monitoring methods are compliant with the standards. Supplies the needs of various departments requiring the services of the department by properly meeting and anticipating the instrumentation needs for pending cases for assembly of procedure specific case carts needs. Receives, unpacks, shelves supplies and stock while maintaining appropriate par levels with rotation sterile supply management principles. Works with the surgical specialty teams to ensure that the supplies for each patient are available when needed. Proactive coordination of preparing the case cart according to the surgeons' preference card for the supplies, equipment, instruments and implants needed for each patient.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of medical terminology course is preferred.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and hospital personnel.
• Completion of the 120-day orientation:
  • Successfully completes department and hospital orientation process
  • Competence maintained during evaluation year to include department standards, objectives, in service and continuing education.
• Central Service Certification.
• BCLS preferred.
