Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech to sterilize and prepare surgical products for in-patient and outpatient settings. The role requires attention to detail in documenting sterilization processes and maintaining accurate stock levels across sterile supply areas.

You will coordinate with surgical teams to assemble carts per surgeon preferences and ensure availability of instruments and implants for each case.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Completion of medical terminology course preferred; strong interpersonal skills to communicate with patients and staff.
• Computer skills required.
• Completion of the 120-day orientation including department standards and ongoing education.

Responsibilities

• Sterilize, inspect, assemble, package, disinfect, and sterilize surgical products for all care areas.
• Document and monitor sterilization processes to ensure compliance with standards.
• Receive, unpack, shelf, and stock supplies while maintaining par levels and rotation for sterile supply management.
• Coordinate with surgical teams to prepare procedure-specific case carts per surgeon preference cards, ensuring supplies and tools are available for each patient.

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

• Cleans, inspects, assembles, packages, disinfects, and sterilizes all surgical products used in inpatient, outpatient, operating room, emergency room, delivery room, and satellite departments.
• Documents and monitors all sterilization processes (steam, ETOH, Sterrad, and high-level disinfectants) to ensure compliance with established standards.
• Receives, unpacks, shelves, and stocks supplies while maintaining appropriate par levels and rotation principles for sterile supply management.
• Coordinates with surgical specialty teams to prepare procedure-specific case carts according to surgeon preference cards, ensuring all necessary supplies, equipment, instruments, and implants are available for each patient.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of medical terminology course is preferred. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and hospital personnel.
• Computer skills.
• Completion of the 120-day orientation:
  • Successfully completes department and hospital orientation process
  • Competence maintained during evaluation year to include department standards, objectives, in service and continuing education.

Certifications/Licensures Required

• Central Service Certification.
• BCLS preferred.
