Job summary

Henry Ford Health seeks a Surgical Reprocessing Technician to support the sterile processing function across the hospital and satellite areas. Under supervision, you will clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical products for the operating room, delivery room, and ambulatory sites.

You will document sterilization cycles, monitor compliance with standards, and coordinate case cart preparation with surgeon preferences to ensure timely availability of instruments and implants for procedures.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of medical terminology course preferred.
• Interpersonal and communication skills with patients and hospital personnel.
• Computer skills.
• Completion of the 120-day orientation and ongoing evaluation requirements.
• Central Service Certification.
• BCLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, inspects, assembles, packages, disinfects/sterilizes all surgical products used to support physicians and surgical team in inpatient, outpatient departments, Operating room, Emergency Room, Delivery Room and satellites.
• Documents and monitors all sterilization processes (steam, alcohol, Sterrad and high level disinfectants).
• Ensures all monitoring methods are compliant with the standards.
• Anticipates instrumentation needs for pending cases and assembles procedure-specific case carts and supplies.
• Receives, unpacks, shelves supplies and maintains appropriate par levels with rotation of sterile supplies.
• Coordinates with surgical specialty teams to ensure supplies for each patient are available when needed.
• Prepares case carts according to surgeon preference cards for supplies, equipment, instruments and implants.

General Summary

• Under general supervision of the Coordinator/Manager/Director cleans, inspects, assembles, packages disinfects/sterilizes all surgical products used to support physicians and surgical team in the inpatient, outpatient departments, Operating room, Emergency Room, Delivery Room and satellites.
• Documents and monitors all sterilization processes in assigned areas including but not limited to: steam, ETOH, Sterrad and high level disinfectants.
• Ensures all monitoring methods are compliant with the standards.
• Supplies the needs of various departments requiring the services of the department by properly meeting and anticipating the instrumentation needs for pending cases for assembly of procedure specific case carts needs.
• Receives, unpacks, shelves supplies and stock while maintaining appropriate par levels with rotation sterile supply management principles.
• Works with the surgical specialty teams to ensure that the supplies for each patient are available when needed.
• Proactive coordination of preparing the case cart according to the surgeon's preference card for the supplies, equipment, instruments and implants needed for each patient.
