Job summary

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience in customer service.
• Satisfactory completion in safe patient handling for transporters within one month of start date.
• Ability to assess status of equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition.
• Ability to assess and determine the best routes within hospital to reach desired destinations.

Responsibilities

• Lifts and transports patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers or beds, properly positioning and securing patient using proper body mechanics.
• Transports patients to their destinations and may move other items such as patient belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs or equipment.
• Contacts clinical staff regarding changes to patient condition or equipment issues during transport.
• Verifies and documents correct patient identification.
• Tracks assignments using electronic software (initiated, completed, delayed, or cancelled).
• Collects and returns equipment; disinfects and inspects transport equipment; reports any needed repairs.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
