Fairview is looking for a Surgical Pathology Technician at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center. This is a benefit-eligible position, 50 hours per two-week pay period (0.625 FTE), supporting the pathology laboratory. This opportunity is on the evening shift, Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm to 8:30 pm. No weekends are required. The schedule will vary to meet the needs of the department. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in biological sciences such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology.
The Surgical Pathology Technician (SPT) performs all work processes necessary for the preparation or procurement of specimens (blocks, slides, tissue, others) used for high-complexity testing as defined by CLIA'88. The SPT possesses knowledge of pathology/clinical laboratories (cytology, cytogenetics, hematopathology, molecular, histology, or other), recognizes problems, identifies basic causes, and makes corrections using established protocols. The SPT processes data based on knowledge of technical conditions affecting diagnostic test results and performs procedures within established parameters. The SPT collaborates with laboratory customers to promote a positive patient and provider experience. The SPT works independently under general supervision.
