Job summary

WellSpan Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for Surgical Services (OR) to join a unit with 11 operating room suites and a broad range of specialties. The role includes 7–8 ORs on weekdays, call coverage seven days a week, and full participation in nursing processes to support patient care from pre-admission through postoperative stages.

Responsibilities cover medication safety, orders transcription, patient education, and continuous intraoperative assessment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Ongoing education to update clinical skills.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate safe medication practice.
• Maintain a professional image and positive impression.
• Complete chart checks to ensure no missed orders.
• Accurately transcribe physician orders.
• Use therapeutic communication skills.
• Assess patient education needs and utilize educational resources.
• Lead through the nursing process and supervise while ensuring accountability for outcomes.
• Serve as a resource for patient care and staff education.
• Respond calmly to delays and offer alternatives.
• Analyze assessment data and document in the Plan of Care.
• Identify and respond to critical changes in patient condition.
• Document discharge assessment against plan of care goals.
• Prepare rooms and equipment for procedures; maintain sterile fields.
• Assist surgeons by retracting tissues under direction.
