Job summary

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is seeking a Surgical First Assistant to support operating room procedures, maintain aseptic technique, and assist surgeons with instrument handling, tissue management, and patient safety.

Requires completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program and certifications (BLS, CSFA, SA-C, CSA). Two+ years of related experience preferred; located near Shawnee Mission, KS with a focus on patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• Ability to prepare surgical suites with appropriate instruments, resources, and supplies.
• Knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment used for surgical procedures.
• Understand procedures and anticipate surgeon needs.
• Strong collaboration with physicians and team mindset.
• Reading, writing, and speaking conversational English.
• Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Set up operating suites and update physician preference cards.
• Select and arrange surgical instruments, supplies, and hemostasis equipment.
• Assist with patient positioning and maintaining aseptic technique.
• Participate in counts and time-out verifications with the team.
• Assist with site visualization, tissue handling, suction, and irrigation.
• Ensure safe medication handling and proper instrument preparation for sterilization.
