Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a qualified Surgical First Assistant to support the surgeon and team in the operating room. You will perform sterile technique, help prepare patients, and visualize the operative field under supervision for graft harvesting and closure.

The role requires experience and a preference for endoscopic vein harvesting certification. The position involves traveling between facilities to support surgical cases and ensure optimal patient outcomes, with adherence to compliance

Qualifications

Required - High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assistant program.
Preferred - Certified course in Endoscopic Saphenous Vein Harvesting.
Required - 5 years of experience in surgery; Preferred - 2 years in Surgical First Assisting.

Responsibilities

Practice strict adherence to sterile technique.
Facilitates preparation of the patient for surgery.
Provides visualization of the operative field.
Under the direct supervision of the surgeon, harvests the saphenous vein for coronary artery grafting purposes.
Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes.
Selects and applies appropriate wound dressing and secures drainage system or intra aortic balloon pump to tissue.
Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy and communication styles.
Performs other related duties as required.
