Job summary

Adventist HealthCare is seeking an experienced Surgical First Assistant for White Oak Medical Center in Maryland. You will assist in OR setup, hemostasis, tissue handling, and patient positioning to support safe surgical care.

Responsibilities include collaborating with the OR team, preparing dressings, and transporting patients to PACU. On-call availability and relevant certifications are required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in surgical assisting or related field.
• 3 years of experience as a Surgical First Assistant or similar role.
• Certification by NBSTSA, ABSA, NSSA, or NCCSA.
• Graduate of a CAAHEP Surgical Assistant program recognized by US Dept. of Ed.
• Initial CSFA, CSA or SA-C certification.
• American Heart Association CPR Certification; ACLS preferred.
• Surgical tech experience preferred.
• On-call availability required.

Responsibilities

• Provide visualization of the operative site with retractors, packs, tissue handling, suction, sponging and irrigation.
• Assist with hemostasis using clamps, ligation, and local hemostatic agents.
• Set up the OR for procedures and select equipment and positioning devices.
• Position the patient with proper alignment, padding, and safety considerations.
• Anticipate surgeon moves and assist expeditiously for efficient workflow.
• Close body planes using appropriate techniques.
• Prepare wound dressings and transport patient to PACU with anesthesia care.
• Prep the OR for the next patient and work with the surgical team to ensure safety.
