Job summary

AdventHealth Tampa in Florida seeks a Surgical Tech/First Assistant to support operating room teams in busy procedures. You will prepare suites, select instruments, maintain asepsis, and assist with patient positioning and medications under the surgeon's guidance.

Experience with instrument handling, counts, time-out procedures, and coordination with the circulator is required. BLS certification is mandatory; CSFA/CSA/SA-C or CST preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have BLS CPR certification.
• Certified Surgical Assistant/First Assistant credentials accepted as required.
• Experience with surgical procedures and patient safety preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up operating suites per physician preferences and update cards.
• Determine appropriate surgical equipment and supplies based on surgeon preferences.
• Achieve hemostasis using appropriate techniques.
• Assist with closures, wound dressing and drainage systems.
• Provide visualization for operative sites through tissue manipulation and suction.
• Handle instruments and equipment during surgeries, anticipating surgeon needs.
• Assist with patient positioning and safety.
• Maintain aseptic technique and monitor team for breaks in protocol.
• Perform instrument, sharps, and sponge counts as needed.
• Participate in time-out verification and address discrepancies.
• Pass medications and irrigation solutions during procedures.
• Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization and transport to decontamination.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
