Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL seeks a Surgical First Assistant to position patients, assist the surgeon, and ensure safe and efficient operative care. You will support anesthesia, manage retractors, clamps, and dressings, and help with closures and specimen handling as directed by the surgeon.

Required are BLS and CSA/CSFA or equivalent certification, plus 2+ years as a first assistant. A strong team mindset, clear communication, and readiness for full-time daytime shifts are essential.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) and CSA/CSFA NBSTSA certifications required.
• 2+ years of experience as first assistant preferred.
• Ability to read, write and speak conversational English clearly.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Position patients for optimal surgical exposure and ensure comfort and safety.
• Assist surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and wound care.
• Prepare OR, scrub, and maintain instruments and equipment post-procedure.
• Collaborate with anesthesia and nursing staff to support patient care.
