Job summary

ScionHealth’s St. Francis-Emory Healthcare in Columbus, GA is seeking a Surgical Technologist - First Assist to join the perioperative team.

You will provide advanced intraoperative assistance, exposure, hemostasis, suturing and instrument handling under the surgeon’s guidance. Required are an accredited surgical technology program, CST certification, BLS, and 2+ years OR experience; CSFA or CFA may be required by facility.

Qualifications

• Postsecondary program graduate required.
• Completion of accredited Surgical First Assist program may be required by facility.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile field and supplies.
• Provide direct intraoperative support as first assistant.
• Assist with tissue retraction, exposure, and visualization.
• Control bleeding with clamping, cauterization, or other methods.
• Perform suturing, stapling, and wound closure as directed.
• Assist in patient positioning, draping, and preparation.
• Maintain sterile technique and infection prevention.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff.
• Assist with turnover and OR setup between cases.
