Job summary

IU Health is seeking a part-time Surgical Enhanced Technologist for day shifts. You will provide pre-, intra-, and post-operative support, ensuring the proper setup of sterile equipment and assisting the surgeon as allowed by standards.

You'll work with a surgical team including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, train colleagues, and mentor junior staff while maintaining sterile field and documentation compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist NBSTSA certification required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Expert in advanced technology within specialty service (lasers, robotics, navigational tech, implantable devices).
  • 19 Contact Hours of Continuing Education required.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Adherence to policies/regulations for sterile field maintenance.
  • Minimum of 1 year OR experience in the Skilled Technologist role or relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the OR before each operation.
  • Assist the surgeon in the operating room as permitted by standards.
  • Assist in turnover of the OR after procedures, ensuring proper routing/processing of specimens and instruments.
  • Work as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs, and others.
  • Train colleagues on various skills and tasks.
  • Serve as a resource or mentor to less experienced colleagues.

Job description

Overview

This is a part time, day shift role.

Surgical Enhanced Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. Trains colleagues on various skills and tasks. Acts as a resource or mentor to colleagues with less experience.

  • Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA.
  • Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Must be an expert in advanced technology within specialty service. Examples include lasers, robotics, navigational technology, Implantable Electronic Devices (Pacemakers, VADs, VNS), etc.
  • Requires documentation of 19Contact Hours of Continuing Education.
  • Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
  • Requires application and completion of selected documentation for review by each region's Surgical Technologist Steering Committee as well as an interview with the committee.
  • Requires a minimum of 1 year OR experience in the Skilled Technologist role or relevant experience.
