Job summary

Coastal Oral Surgery in New Jersey is seeking a Surgical Dental Assistant to join our team and float between Toms River, Sea Girt, and Brick offices, supporting oral surgeons during a range of surgical procedures.

You will prepare treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, assist during surgeries, monitor patient comfort and vital signs, provide post-operative care instructions, and handle scheduling and records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid X-ray license required.
• Experience as a dental assistant, especially in Oral Surgery.
• Discharge experience preferred.
• Knowledge of oral surgery instruments and materials.
• Infection control protocols knowledge.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks.
• Strong communication and compassionate patient care, detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the treatment room and ensure cleanliness, organization, and readiness of instruments.
• Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments per infection control guidelines.
• Assist Oral Surgeons during procedures, anticipating needs and maintaining sterility.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and comfort during surgery.
• Provide post-operative care instructions and educate patients on oral health.
• Schedule appointments, manage records, and assist with billing and inventory.

As an Surgical Dental Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our Oral Surgeons with various surgical procedures. What You'll Do:

The Surgical Dental Assistant will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our Oral Surgeons throughout various surgical procedures. Will be required to float between all 3 locations: Toms River, Sea Girt, Brick, NJ.

The successful candidate will be able to:

Preparing the Treatment Room:

• -Ensure the treatment room is clean, organized, and equipped with the necessary instruments and supplies
• -Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments according to infection control guidelines
• -Set up equipment such as suction devices, dental chairs, X-ray machines, and surgical lights

Assisting with Oral Surgery Procedures:

• -Prepare patients for Oral Surgery, explaining the procedure and addressing any concerns they may have
• -Assist Oral Surgeons during surgical procedures, anticipating their needs and providing the necessary
• -instruments and materials
• -Maintain a sterile environment during surgery, following strict infection control protocols
• -Monitor patients' vital signs and comfort level during surgery, ensuring their well-being at all times
• -Handle and dispose of surgical waste and hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations

Patient Support and Education:

• -Provide post-operative care instructions to patients, including oral hygiene practices, medication administration, and dietary restrictions
• -Answer patients’ questions and concerns, offering reassurance and empathy throughout their treatment

• -Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting treatment plans, procedures, and progress

Administrative Duties:

• -Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with other dental staff to ensure smooth patient flow
• -Manage patient records, update medical histories, and handle billing and insurance documentation
• -Assist with inventory management, ordering dental supplies, and maintaining equipment
• -Perform any and all other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring:

• -High school diploma or equivalent required
• -Valid X-ray license is required
• -Previous experience as a dental assistant, particularly in Oral Surgery, is highly desirable
• -Discharge experience is highly preferred
• -Knowledge of oral surgery procedures, instruments, and materials
• -Familiarity with infection control protocols and safety measures
• -Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• -Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach
• -Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• -Proficiency in dental software and computer literacy
