Job summary

Riverside Oral Surgery in New York is seeking a Surgical Dental Assistant to join the team. This role supports Oral Surgeons in surgical procedures and delivers top-quality patient care.

The candidate will prepare treatment rooms, assist during surgeries, and provide post-operative guidance while maintaining strict infection control and organized records. Prior OR experience is preferred; high school diploma required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid X-ray license preferred.
  • Experience as a dental assistant, especially in Oral Surgery.
  • Discharge experience highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of oral surgery procedures, instruments, and materials.
  • Familiarity with infection control protocols and safety measures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centered approach.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in dental software and computer literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment room: ensure cleanliness, organization, and readiness.
  • Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments per infection control.
  • Set up equipment such as suction devices, dental chairs, X-ray machines.
  • Prepare patients for Oral Surgery and explain procedures.
  • Assist Oral Surgeons during surgical procedures and anticipate needs.
  • Maintain a sterile environment during surgery and monitor patient well-being.
  • Handle and dispose of surgical waste per safety regulations.
  • Provide post-operative care instructions and patient education.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and treatment plans.
  • Schedule patient appointments and assist with billing and records.

As an Surgical Dental Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our Oral Surgeons with various surgical procedures. What You’ll Do:

TheSurgical Dental Assistantwill play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our Oral Surgeons throughout various surgical procedures.

The successful candidate will be able to:
Preparing the Treatment Room:
  • -Ensure the treatment room is clean, organized, and equipped with the necessary instruments and supplies
  • -Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments according to infection control guidelines
  • -Set up equipment such as suction devices, dental chairs, X-ray machines, and surgical lights
Assisting with Oral Surgery Procedures:
  • -Prepare patients for Oral Surgery, explaining the procedure and addressing any concerns they may have
  • -Assist Oral Surgeons during surgical procedures, anticipating their needs and providing the necessary instruments and materials
  • -Maintain a sterile environment during surgery, following strict infection control protocols
  • -Monitor patients' vital signs and comfort level during surgery, ensuring their well-being at all times
  • -Handle and dispose of surgical waste and hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations
Patient Support and Education:
  • -Provide post-operative care instructions to patients, including oral hygiene practices, medication administration, and dietary restrictions
  • -Answer patients’ questions and concerns, offering reassurance and empathy throughout their treatment process
  • -Educate patients about oral health, prevention methods, and the importance of regular dental visits
  • -Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting treatment plans, procedures, and progress
Administrative Duties:
  • -Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with other dental staff to ensure smooth patient flow
  • -Manage patient records, update medical histories, and handle billing and insurance documentation
  • -Assist with inventory management, ordering dental supplies, and maintaining equipment
  • -Perform any and all other duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring:
  • -High school diploma or equivalent required
  • -Valid X-ray license is preferred
  • -Previous experience as a dental assistant, particularly in Oral Surgery, is highly desirable
  • -Discharge experience is highly preferred
  • -Knowledge of oral surgery procedures, instruments, and materials
  • -Familiarity with infection control protocols and safety measures
  • -Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • -Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach
  • -Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • -Proficiency in dental software and computer literacy
