Job summary

Rothman Orthopaedics is seeking a Surgical Clinical Assistant (SCA) to support physicians and PAs with daily clinical tasks. The role includes post-op care, pre-admissions testing orders, chart preparation, and patient communication.

You will also assist with scheduling, room setup, and instrument processing in a busy orthopedic setting. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and active CCMA/CRMA/EMT/ATC certification, with proficiency in EMR systems and MS Office.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, escort to exam room, and assist the Physician and PA.
  • Prepare exam rooms, maintain cleanliness and inventory.
  • Assist with post-op wound care and suture removal as directed.
  • Process pre-certifications for imaging and orders as needed.
  • Manage phone calls, voicemails, and patient communications.
  • Scan documents into patient charts and ensure chart completeness.
  • Record vitals and assist with injections as directed.
  • Support scheduling and front desk activities to keep wait times down.

Job Summary:The Surgical Clinical Assistant (SCA) provides assistance to the Physician and Physician's Assistant with daily administrative and clinical duties. Responsibilities include assisting with post-op suture and staple removal, post-op wound care, pre-admissions testing orders, responding to patient calls and messages, and more.Key Accountabilities:Increase patient satisfaction, compliance with schedule prep, voicemail, compliance with policies and procedures, decrease wait times.Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):Greets patients in the waiting room and escorts them to the exam room.Directs patient to surgery scheduling and/or front desk for checkout.Maintains order, cleanliness, and inventory in the exam room, and prepares exam room for patients to enter.Cleans and autoclaves instruments.Provides and scans proper paperwork to the chart for Physician's review.Records vitals as per Physician's request.Prepares injections for the Physician.Pulls up x-rays, MRI's, CT's, and various studies pertaining to the patient's exam.Assists patient with clothing when necessary.Disposes of bio hazardous waste and sharps according to OSHA regulation, and replaces sharps containers when existing containers are full.Answers telephones in patient areas and provides voicemail coverage for Physician.Requests reports for various facilities for Physicians.Empties and restocks laundry.Scans appointment tracking to identify when patients are ready to be seen by the Physician and directs Physician in patient appointment order.Reviews Physician schedules for chart preparation including ensuring operative reports, dictations, and studies are present in the chart.Completes pre-certifications for MRI's and other Physician orders as necessary.Send Visco Injection authorization request to supplement pre-certification representative.Scans information into patient record (including all Physician orders, prescriptions, etc. on the date of service).Covers other areas in the office when not assigned to a Physician.Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested.Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.Qualifications:High school diploma or GED minimum education requirementMust be a CCMA, CRMA, EMT, or ATCProfessional license/certification must be active and validKnowledge of medical office procedures and medical terminologyComputer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office SuiteExperience with EMR system(s) preferredOffice Hours:Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pmTotal Hours per Week:40Status:PermanentProjected Start:Autumn 2026Pay Range:Medical Assistant (CCMA/CRMA): $19.00/hr - $25.00/hrEmergency Medical Technician (EMT-A/EMT-B): $19.00/hr - $25.00/hrAthletic Trainer (ATC): $48,000.00/yr - $70,000.00/yrOur Commitment to Employees:Come work at Rothman Orthopaedics!
