Methodist Health System is seeking a Surgical Coordinator to serve as the patient point of contact, ensuring smooth communication from registration through pre-surgery processes and insurance approvals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent.
• Medical Assistant certification.
• Very strong proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
• Superior oral and written communication skills.
• Strong process orientation.
• Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments in a team-oriented environment.

• Reviews patient registration to ensure it is complete.
• Verifies all insurance and notes it in the Practice Management System/EMR.
• Maintain surgery criteria current with insurance providers and inform staff of changes.
• Communicate to patients and coworkers professionally, enthusiastically and positively.
• Initiate patient into the surgery pipeline and schedule initial surgeon consultation.
• Inform patients about insurance benefits, deductibles, coinsurance, and financial responsibilities.
• Secure Pre-determinations & Pre-Certifications for all procedures.
• Handle physician referrals and ensure doctor’s info is in the EMR.
• Notify that patient is verified and initiated into surgery process.
• Prepare and submit Letters of Medical Necessity and ensure criteria & clearances are completed.
• Upon insurance approval, inform patient, collect fees, schedule pre-op and post-op appointments.
• Handle all appeals and denials with patient’s care.
• Participate in patient education seminars or doctor events.
• Prepare space for seminars/events.
• Assist staff to deliver high-quality patient care and be a team player.
