Job summary

Methodist Health System is seeking a Surgical Coordinator to serve as the patient contact and oversee the surgical pathway from registration through post-op care. You will verify insurance, obtain required approvals, and coordinate pre- op and surgeon consultations while supporting the organization’s mission and patient-centered approach.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent; Medical Assistant certification.
• Very strong proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
• Superior oral and written communication skills.
• Strong process orientation.
• Demonstrated ability to interface and maintain relationships across departments in a team environment.

• Maintain surgery criteria current with insurance providers and inform staff of changes.

• Initiate patient into the surgery pipeline and schedule initial surgeon consultation.
• Explain insurance benefits and financial responsibilities to patients.
• Secure pre-determinations and pre-certifications for procedures.
• Handle physician referrals and ensure doctor info is in EMR.
• Prepare and submit letters of medical necessity and ensure clearances.
• Communicate approvals to patient and schedule pre-op visits.
• Handle appeals/denials in coordination with patient care.
• Participate in patient education seminars and doctor events.
• Prepare space for seminars/events.
• Assist staff to deliver high-quality patient care as a team.
