Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Surgical Assistant to provide first or second assistant support in the operating room under the attending surgeon's guidance. You will maintain sterile technique, assist with exposure, hemostasis, and closure, and help position and drape patients as needed in a busy academic medical center.

The role requires ARC-ST accredited training, DC licensure, and CSA or equivalent certification, with experience in an academic medical setting

Qualifications

• Graduate from ARC-ST accredited surgical assisting program.
• CSA certification or equivalent.
• Licensed Surgical Assistant in the District of Columbia.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a First or Second Assistant to the Attending surgeon in the OR.
• Maintain a sterile field per AORN and regulatory standards.
• Position and drape patients as directed by the surgeon and assist in exposure.
• Assist in achieving hemostasis and in tissue handling and suturing as directed.
• Apply dressings and secure drainage as instructed; follow policies and procedures.
