Job summary

MedStar Health in Baltimore seeks a Surgical Assistant to provide first, second, or third assistant during open heart and vascular procedures, under physician direction. Responsibilities include pre/post-operative patient care, maintaining sterile technique, and assisting in complex cardiovascular operations.

Ideal candidates have an Associate's degree or higher, NSAA-trained or equivalent, and CSA certification or progress toward it, with CPR and related certifications up to date.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher required; NSAA or related training accepted.
• Experience: <1 year for new graduates; 2+ years preferred in cardiac/general surgery.
• Must maintain certification requirements and CPR as specified.

Responsibilities

• Assist attending surgeon during cardiac and vascular procedures, including cannulations and grafting.
• Support pre- and post-operative patient care and participate in rounds.
• Maintain sterile field and assist in chart Review and intraoperative monitoring.
• Assist anesthesia with venipuncture, IV starting, and patient stabilization as directed.
• Help with equipment setup, specimen collection, and post-operative documentation.
