Arizona Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant to join our well-established specialty practice. The successful candidate will support the oral surgeon during procedures, prepare instruments, ensure sterility, and help maintain patient comfort throughout the surgical process.

The role requires attention to detail, reliability, and strong teamwork. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of experience, CPR certification, and a background in dental assisting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Dental Assistant program preferred.
• CPR certification up to date is required.
• Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and sterilization protocols.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment to maintain a sterile environment.
• Escort patients to the operatory in a timely, professional manner.
• Help patients feel comfortable and informed before, during, and after treatment.
• Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by passing instruments and suctioning as needed.
• Prepare patients for surgery, monitor vital signs, and assist in anesthesia administration.
• Verify patient medical history and update records accordingly in the EHR.
• Document surgical details accurately in the patient’s EHR.

The Surgical Assistant plays a pivotal role in assisting the oral surgeon during dental procedures, ensuring a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for patients. This role is responsible for preparing surgical instruments and equipment, supporting the surgical team, and maintaining a high standard of patient care throughout the surgical process. The Lead Surgical Assistant also leads and supports the clinical team, ensuring smooth operations, adherence to safety protocols, and optimal patient care

Your responsibilities will include:

• Prepare and sterilize all surgical instruments and equipment before, during, and after procedures to ensure a sterile environment
• Escort patients to theoperatoryina timely, professional manner
• Help patients feel comfortable and informed before, during, and after their treatment, addressing any concerns they may have
• Assistthe oral surgeon during procedures by passing instruments, suctioning, and providing necessary materials as needed
• Prepare patients for surgery,monitorvital signs, andassistin anesthesia administration to ensure patient safety
• Verify patient medical history prior to treatment and ensure all necessary changes are made in the records
• Confirm that the patient fully understands and is educated about the procedure being performed
• Accurately document patient information, surgical details, and updates into the patient’s electronic health record (EHR)

Preferred Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Dental Assistant program preferred
• Maintain necessary certification(s) and renewals as required by state regulations
• Ensure CPR certification is up to date.
• Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, and patient care protocols
• Excellent manual dexterity and ability to handle surgical instruments with precision
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a surgical assistant, preferably in an oral surgery or dental setting
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience is a plus
• Perform other duties as assigned by management or the dental team to support daily operations
