BluePearl Pet Hospital in Kirkland, WA is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department. The role offers a schedule of Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri from 10am-8pm and pay between $23 and $31 per hour.

The ideal candidate has at least two years of veterinary hospital experience, strong nursing skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A rotating on-call schedule is required after training.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards and core values.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exams; monitor heart rate, pulse, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temp, resp effort.
• Set up intravenous fluids and administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot issues.
• Disconnect/connect patients from IV fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy and signs of overload.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10am-8pm

Pay: $23 - $31 / hour

A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.

As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, You Will

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Able to set up intravenous fluids.
• Administers subcutaneous fluids.
• Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
