Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Southwest Portland is hiring a Veterinary Assistant for the Surgery Department. The role involves providing nursing care to surgical patients, post-operative communication, and supporting the team on a rotating schedule (A/B weeks, 7am-5:30pm).

A minimum of two years of veterinary hospital experience is preferred, and a rotating on-call schedule is required after training. The position offers collaboration with a dedicated team, opportunities to develop leadership

• Monitor patient response to therapy and alert doctors as needed.

Ideal candidate would be open to an A/B schedule Monday-Thursday one week and then Tuesday-Friday the second week. Could also potentially support a Tuesday-Friday set schedule. Shift time is 7-5:30.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department in Southwest Portland!

Schedule: A/B Monday-Thursday one week, Tuesday-Friday second week from 7am-5:30pm.

A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.

As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.

• Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein .

• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.

• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.

• Able to set up intravenous fluids.

• Administers subcutaneous fluids.

• Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.

• Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.

• Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
