Job summary

MedVet is seeking a Surgery Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency and specialty team. You will manage patient histories, schedule appointments, prepare patients for surgery, and assist with post-operative care while maintaining precise medical records.

Ideal candidates have prior veterinary experience, basic drug calculations, and excellent verbal and written communication. The role offers collaboration with surgeons and client education opportunities.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous surgery experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
• Flexible with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Manage appointments, obtain patient histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
• Fill medications, enter charges and maintain accurate medical records, schedule appointments.
• Create patient releases, navigate client conversations around treatment plans and financial obligations.
• Prep patients for surgery, including shaving, scrubbing and positioning, assist with intubation and radiographs.
• Proficiently perform blood draws and submit bloodwork.
• Ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
• Opening, turning over and cleaning operating rooms, as well as cleaning instruments and wrapping packs.
