Job summary

OU Health in Oklahoma City seeks a Surgery Support Tech for the Pediatric Surgery department. This full-time role supports the Surgical Suites, transports patients and materials, and assists with room turnover and cleaning, under supervision.

Successful candidate will hold a high school diploma or GED, have a current BLS certification, and demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• No experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients, specimens, supplies, blood, and equipment as directed.
• Ensures safe transport of blood and other specimens following procedures.
• Transports patients and families to appropriate areas or waiting rooms.
• Observes changes in patient condition and reports to OR desk or charge nurse.
• Move and position patients in the Surgical Suite as needed.
• Completes required documentation.
• Reports any changes in patient condition during transport immediately.
• Performs daily/weekly cleaning within the Surgical Suites and operates cleaning procedures for ORs.
• Maintains department cleanliness including hallways, bathrooms, lounges, and supply areas.
• Follows regulations for hospital sanitation, cleanliness, and safety.
• Disposes waste items according to procedures.
• Restocks supplies, linens, and solutions.
• Performs other support services as requested.

Job Description

General Description: Under immediate supervision, the Surgical Support Technician is responsible for a variety of duties in support of the Surgical Suites

Essential Responsibilities

• Transports patients, specimens, supplies, blood, and equipment as directed.
• Ensures all procedures are followed for the safe transport of blood and other specimens.
• Responsible for transporting patients and families to appropriate areas or waiting rooms.
• Observes and communicates any changes, such as patient not being ready, to the OR desk or charge nurse.
• May be required to take emergency action.
• Helps move and position patients in the Surgical Suite as needed.
• Completes required documentation.
• Immediately reports any changes in patient's condition during transport.
• Performs daily and/or weekly cleaning within the Surgical Suites.
• Follows established procedures and guidelines for cleaning operating rooms.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the department which includes cleaning hallways, bathrooms, lounges, and supply areas.
• Complies with all relevant procedures and regulations related to hospital sanitation, cleanliness, and safety.
• Ensures that all procedures and regulations for proper disposal of waste items and material are followed.
• Responsible for restocking supplies, linens, and solutions.
• Performs other support services as requested.

General Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: No experience required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
