Job summary

Sky Lakes is seeking a Surgery Technician Intern for the Operating Room in Oregon. This full-time, on-site role supports surgical teams and helps prepare and drape patients, set up instruments, and maintain sterile conditions throughout procedures.

The position requires knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, with BLS within 60 days of hire. It offers exposure to diverse surgical cases and a dynamic OR environment.

Qualifications

• BLS within 60 days of hire and maintained.
• Meets legal requirement for grandfathered training clause.

Responsibilities

• Scrubs, gowns, and gloves.
• Maintains sterile environment at all times during set up and procedure.
• Sets up table, instruments, and supplies according to scheduled operation.
• Assists with the preparation and draping of patient.
• Assists and anticipates the needs of the Surgeon and use of instrumentation, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
• Observes patient for changes in physical status and assists with emergency procedures as needed.
• Performs correct sponge, needle and instrument count with circulating RN according to unit policy.
• Assists the circulating RN in care and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Assists in the application of dressings and casts.
• Assists with cleaning surgical suite after each case.
• Knowledge/safe use of medications on the surgical field.
• Obtains all supplies needed by the patient, surgeon or anesthesiologist.
• Obtains special equipment when needed.
• Maintains correct positioning of patient during case.
• Assists with moving patients from surgical table as needed.
• Maintains hospital and patient confidentiality.
• Knowledge of and adherence to OSHAS Safety Policies and Universal Precautions.
• Effective response in emergency surgical situations.
• Maintains effective working relationships.
• Ability to adapt to change rapidly. Flexibility in staffing/ emergency standby to meet patient needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Medium to heavy physical demands. Knowledge of and efficiently operates all equipment used. Ability to stand within limited area most of the working shift. Ability to stoop frequently; push/pull up to 1200 pounds frequently, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Possess excellent eye/hand coordination' work under stress and constant time demands. Ability to work within a controlled traffic pattern. Able to provide quality care in an emergency basis to ensure quality patient care.
