Job summary

Tenet Healthcare is seeking a Medical Assistant to manage the full surgery process, including insurance verification, pre-operative testing, and coordination of post-surgical care. The role requires a Medical Assistant program completion and strong HIPAA compliance.

Applicants should have at least 5 years of experience in a physician office with surgery scheduling; CMA is preferred and CPR is required. Occasional local travel to support other offices may be required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of the surgery process, including insurance verification and pre-op authorizations.
• Coordinate scheduling for pre-operative labs and testing; assist post-surgery care setup.
• Triage surgical candidates as required by physicians.
• Educate patients about planned procedures.
• Verify insurance details in the system and obtain necessary authorizations.
• Coordinate preoperative testing with surgeons per hospital protocol.
• Collaborate with hospital staff to obtain required information for scheduling.
• Notify supervisor of patient account and insurance issues; assist staff as needed.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all aspects of surgery process including all verifying insurance; pre-operative certifications and authorizations; complete necessary hospital forms; scheduling patient for any pre-operative labs, testing and coordination of post-surgery care
• Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources, the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan, and the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program's Code of Conduct.
• Triage surgical candidates as required by the physicians.
• Educate patients about planned surgery.
• Verify insurance information in the electronic system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual plans prior to surgery.
• Obtain medical clearances and coordinate preoperative testing in concert with surgeons and per hospital protocols.
• Work with appropriate hospital personnel to obtain necessary information for surgery scheduling.
• Confirm and reschedule return appointments, as necessary.
• Notify manager with patient account and insurance issues.
• Provide assistance to administrative or clinical staff as needed; other duties as assigned.

Experience

Experience: Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a physician office with previous surgery scheduling experience strongly preferred.
