General Surgeon job opportunity in Caribou, Maine - Located in Northern Maine - near the Canadian border - 200 miles from Bangor, ME.

Position Details:

1. Full-time, permanent position
2. Patient Demographics: Primarily elderly patients with co-morbidities; active engagement with local athletic programs at various educational levels
3. Qualifications: Board Certified or eligible on a defined track to certification; open to American-trained and foreign-trained physicians who completed US residency/fellowship; in-practice physicians, residents, fellows, and military-trained physicians considered equally

Compensation and Benefits:

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary, comprehensive health and welfare benefits, professional liability insurance, CME reimbursement, relocation assistance, and education loan repayment if applicable. Additionally, an annual allowance is provided for licensing, DEA registration, professional society memberships, and journal subscriptions. The practice participates in the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment program.

Practice Characteristics:

Specialists available include urology, general surgery, ophthalmology, neurology, hospitalists, and occupational medicine. Access to outpatient clinics for cardiology, pulmonary, hematology/oncology, endocrinology, neurosurgery, ENT, pediatric cardiology/nephrology/gastroenterology, podiatry, rheumatology, diabetes counseling, and nutritional therapy. The role involves growing the practice by providing high-quality inpatient and outpatient care and maintaining effective communication with primary care and specialty physicians, including coordinating patient transfers to tertiary centers as needed.

The organization manages 30 physicians and 26 mid-level providers across northern Maine locations, including Caribou, Presque Isle, Washburn, Fort Fairfield, and Van Buren. Recognized as a Federally Qualified Health Center since 2007, it offers enhanced access to healthcare services, employs providers with H-1B and J-1 visas, and has received multiple HRSA grants for oral health expansion and quality performance. The system is a recognized Patient-Centered Medical Home, emphasizing coordinated, team-based, patient-centered care.
