Job summary

Methodist Hospital is seeking a Surgery Aide to support the operating room team by stocking sterile and non-sterile supplies and ensuring a clean, safe environment for patient care. You will collaborate with OR Materials staff, OR staff and surgeons to maintain efficient case flow.

The role includes assisting with patient positioning, transporting patients to and from the OR, and helping with room turnover. This is a 0.8 FTE rotating schedule encompassing Day/Evening/Nights/Weekends.

Qualifications

• 6 months of patient care experience required.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Demonstrated understanding of principles of sterile processing and materials handling.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and safety of operating room environment.
• Stock and organize sterile and non-sterile supplies for OR cases.
• Assist with patient positioning and transport to/from the operating room.
• Report malfunctioning or damaged equipment to OR staff.
• Assist with waste disposal and tracking of specimens as needed.
• Communicate courteously with OR staff and other hospital areas to support patient care.

Position Summary

Assists operating room personnel to provide an environment that is clean and safe for patient care. Responsible for knowing supply inventory in OR Core areas. Stocks surgery department with sterile and non-sterile supplies. Works to supply the OR with supplies and equipment needed for cases. Maintains a collaborative, service-oriented relationship with OR Materials staff, OR staff and surgeons.

• Room Turnover
  • Assist OR Staff with patient position as directed (to and from the operating table).
  • Transport patient to/from Operating Room before/after surgery safely and comfortably.
  • Clean Operating Room after surgery complete according to policies and standard work procedures.
• Restock common areas with supplies.
• Responds to the need for single items in emergency situations and sends to the OR.
• Plan equipment and staging needs of OR cases throughout the shift.
• Reports malfunctioning/damaged equipment.
• Transports specimens to the lab and logs them in correctly.
• Responsible for Waste disposals (garbage, dirty linen, biohazard red boxes, Meds in Black, etc.)
• Maintains good communication skills, uses courtesy and helpful attitude on telephone or intercom with OR and other areas of the hospital.
• Follow Standard Work throughout the Department.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area.
