Job summary

Major Drilling America is seeking a Driller Helper to support the drilling crew with safety readiness, PPE compliance, and learning core procedures at remote sites. The role emphasizes safety, professional conduct, and adherence to site rules while supporting the crew in sample recovery and presentation.

The position requires 12-hour shifts, up to 100% travel, a valid driver's license, the ability to lift 55 lb, and the capacity to pass a pre-hire drug test.

Responsibilities

• Follow the Life-Saving Rules and PPE requirements; maintain site housekeeping.

• Understand guards, LOTOTO, and Stop Work Authority.
• Locate and use SWPs/JSAs/SOPs and Safety Data Sheets.
• Report incidents, near misses, and hazards.
• Support the driller with basic tasks and gear turnover at shift end.

Job description

Base pay range is $22.70 to $29.20. Total earning potential may increase due to non-discretionary incentives and performance-based bonuses.

Surface helper is focused on safety readiness, basic site protocols, and assisting the drilling crew. The position emphasizes learning core procedures, PPE use, communication, and emergency readiness.

The Driller Helper is responsible, under the guidance and direction of the Driller, for assisting in the recovery and presentation of samples through safe, cost-effective, and professional practices so that client expectations are met or exceeded. The Driller Helper is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the duties and tasks outlined within this specification are undertaken in accordance with Major Drilling policies, procedures, and practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Arrive fit for duty and on time; conduct yourself professionally and represent the company standard.
• Follow the 10 Life-Saving Rules, site PPE requirements (hard hat, hi‑vis, cut-resistant gloves, etc.), and maintain housekeeping at the drill station.
• Complete Take 5s, site inductions, and pre-shift inspections (mobile equipment and tools) as directed.
• Drive company vehicles safely and in accordance with company policies
• Understand guards/barriers, LOTOTO, and Stop Work Authority.
• Locate and use SWPs/JSAs/SOPs and Safety Data Sheets
• Report incidents, near misses, and hazards.
• Support the driller with basic tasks and communication, including end‑of‑shift turn‑in of radios and gas monitors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Safety-first mindset; situational awareness of pinch/rotating hazards.
• Clear verbal radio communication and willingness to ask questions.
• Frequent lifting, bending, kneeling
• Ability to work in remote outdoor conditions (cold, precipitation, heat, dust) with required PPE and respirator when needed.

Travel Required:

Up to 100% Travel is required

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must commit to working safely and ensuring the safety of co-workers.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Have a current, registered driver’s license without major infractions in the last three years.
• Be physically fit and able to pass a fit-for-duty test.
• Lifting 55lb regularly
• Be able to pass a pre-hire drug test.
• Have a preference for working outdoors and be able to adapt to a nomadic lifestyle.
• Be compatible and able to communicate with other people in a small team environment.
• Be able to work 12-hour shifts (day or night) in various climatic conditions for extended periods of time.
• Be able to complete your scheduled rotation 14/7, 20/10, or 28/14 with no interruptions unless approved by management
• Have a mechanical background and aptitude, with skills in operating and maintaining machinery.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
