Job summary

UFG Insurance is seeking a Surety Underwriter Trainee to join our growing Surety Department in Dallas, Texas. The program offers on-the-job training to analyze financial statements, review contractor applications, and learn to use various sources for research, with mentorship to guide recommendations on new and existing business.

The role prepares you to underwrite submissions, assess risk, and support agency visits while aiming to meet department goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, finance or accounting preferred.
• AFSB designation preferred or working towards.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete a comprehensive surety underwriting training program consisting of mentoring, self-study, and on-line learning.
• Gain an understanding and develop analytical skills on how to investigate, analyze, and underwrite surety business profitably.
• Underwrite new submissions and existing accounts with assistance from mentors. Evaluate and assess financial status, credit standing, and organization profile to analyze and determine acceptability of the risk within the framework of UFG underwriting policies and procedures.
• Assist surety underwriters in processing their books of business.
• Handle confidential information with discretion.
• Provide high-quality customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers
• Maintain electronic files per department guidelines.
• Gain exposure and skills on various software platforms.

Education
