Job summary

UFG Insurance in the Atlanta region is seeking a Surety Underwriter to actively build and maintain a profitable mix of new and existing surety business by developing strong relationships with the agency force.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate robust analytical skills to evaluate risk within authority, travel up to 25% for agency visits, and mentor associate underwriters and trainees as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or combination of education and surety experience.
• Experience in contract surety underwriting preferred.
• Efficient in evaluating financial statements and credit profiles.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new submissions and existing accounts within authority.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents/brokers.
• Oversee a book of contract surety business in defined territory.
• Meet production, marketing, and profitability goals with territory plan.
• Update files electronically and purge obsolete data per guidelines.
• Provide high quality customer service to internal/external customers.
• Request underwriting information from agencies and review submissions.
• Perform annual financial reviews and credit analysis for accounts.
• Instruct and review work of support staff.
• Document communications per department standards.
• Train and assist junior underwriters and trainees.
