Job summary

Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital in Winter Garden, FL is seeking a Laboratory Section Supervisor to oversee daily operations in a busy clinical lab. The role requires supervising personnel, ensuring test accuracy, and maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

You will monitor workflow, coach staff, schedule shifts, and participate in performance evaluations while supporting budgetary goals and inventory control. This is a leadership position within a mission-driven healthcare system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor in related science field. Required.
• Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technology or appropriate training facility. Required.
• Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience. Required.
• Certified by a professional laboratory-certifying agency, i.e. by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or eligible. Required.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily supervision of personnel and reporting of tests.
• Monitors workflow and evaluates compliance with service guarantees and quality control requirements.
• Works cooperatively with all customers and responds effectively to meet or exceed the customer’s needs. Monitors customer service satisfaction and addresses issues in a timely manner.
• Orients and trains team members in department.
• Completes performance competency evaluations, coaching plans.
• Recognizes and provides positive feedback and rewards for performance and addresses disciplinary actions for all team members of an assigned section.
• Schedules staff to meet workload requirements while minimizing expense.
• Regularly performs and reports routine and special laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure high-quality results.
• Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
• Performs, evaluates, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
• Monitors test analysis to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained and that corrective action is taken as required.
• Evaluates team competency, monitors test results, worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing and maintenance logs. Recommends new tests methodologies and instrumentation to the laboratory manager.
• Implements new test methods and procedures under the direction of the laboratory manager and medical director.
• Supports the manager in maintaining the operational budget within budgetary constraints.
• Orders operating supplies and monitors inventory control, productivity and appropriate testing utilization.
• Directs the development and compliance of all departmental policies and procedures for test performance, quality control, preventive maintenance including troubleshooting according to regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Monitors workflow and delegates responsibilities to team members of the section.
• Regularly communicates with Manager on day-to-day operations.
• Manages various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling.
• Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
