Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Support Group Facilitator based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to create meaningful, affirming spaces where trans, nonbinary, and non-cis individuals can connect, share experiences, and support one another. You'll facilitate virtual peer groups focused on identity, wellness, community, and the experiences that shape gender journeys. The position combines live facilitation with thoughtful session preparation, participant follow-up, and opportunities to contribute to the evolution of support programming. You'll use empathy, lived experience, and strong group-management skills to foster trust while maintaining healthy boundaries and inclusive group dynamics. The role also involves navigating sensitive topics, resolving conflicts, and recognizing when concerns require escalation beyond peer support. This is an independently contracted opportunity within a growing and evolving environment, with the flexibility to contribute to community events and broader engagement initiatives.

Accountabilities:

  • Facilitate live virtual peer support groups that help members navigate barriers and experiences related to identity, gender journeys, and wellbeing.
  • Create welcoming, inclusive, and psychologically supportive spaces by responding proactively and empathetically to participants' emotional needs.
  • Use monthly themes and provided templates to develop structured agendas, discussion questions, activities, reflection exercises, and meaningful participant takeaways.
  • Balance organic peer conversation with purposeful facilitation, ensuring sessions remain focused, engaging, and aligned with group objectives.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, manage time effectively, and use conflict-resolution skills to address group dynamics and uphold group agreements.
  • Answer questions about available services and help participants understand and access relevant support.
  • Engage with participants through the community platform to encourage continued connection and participation beyond live group sessions.
  • Provide feedback on session structures, facilitator training resources, and other materials to strengthen the overall support group experience.
  • Provide occasional facilitation coverage for other facilitators and, when desired, participate in social gatherings, special events, or temporary community moderation activities.
  • Participate in preparation, follow-up, training, and consultation activities as part of the independent contractor engagement.
Requirements
  • 2 years of experience as a facilitator, peer support specialist, or in a comparable role.
  • 2 years of experience supporting trans and/or nonbinary individuals through professional work, community involvement, volunteer activities, or related experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience facilitating virtual or online support groups, workshops, educational sessions, or learning experiences.
  • Demonstrated comfort facilitating conversations and educational content involving equity, anti-discrimination, inclusion, anti-racism, trans and nonbinary issues, consent, and social justice.
  • Experience discussing sensitive topics affecting trans and nonbinary communities, including coming out, mental health, gender identity and expression, sexuality, relationships, family dynamics, isolation, loneliness, substance use, HIV/AIDS, and health and safety concerns.
  • Strong empathy, communication, relationship-building, and active-listening skills, with the ability to create trusting and inclusive environments.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive or divisive discussions thoughtfully while maintaining professionalism, appropriate boundaries, and group agreements.
  • Strong organizational and preparation skills, with the ability to structure sessions around clear objectives and participant outcomes.
  • Professional experience in mental health, behavioral health, counseling, social work, peer support, community health, or a related field is a plus.
  • Relevant credentials or experience such as Licensed Therapist, Social Worker, Peer Support Specialist, Mental Health Advocate, Care Coordinator, Crisis Hotline/Textline Responder, Behavioral Health Aide, Community Health Worker, or Youth Worker are a plus.
  • Experience facilitating discussions tailored to at least two communities such as transfeminine, transmasculine, nonbinary, BIPOC, neurodivergent, parenting, disabled, legislative advocacy, or community engagement populations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with fast-paced startup or evolving organizational environments is a plus.
  • Experience using Zoom, Slack, Google Sheets, and other productivity tools is a plus.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and reside in the United States.
Benefits
  • Independent contractor compensation of $105 USD per completed support group.
  • Additional opportunities to facilitate or host community events, compensated at $75 USD per event when available.
  • Fully remote engagement with groups hosted virtually.
  • Consistent group cadence, with sessions held on an established day and time.
  • Opportunities to contribute feedback and ideas that shape support group programming, facilitator training, and community resources.
  • Opportunities for additional facilitation, special events, community gatherings, and temporary community moderation work.
  • Mission-driven, affirming, and culturally inclusive working environment.
  • Equal-opportunity workplace committed to inclusion and reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
