Job description

Supply Planner

The Supply Planner plays a crucial role in ensuring that a company's products are available to customers in a timely and efficient manner, contributing to customer satisfaction and business success.

At UniFirst, the Supply Planner is responsible for coordinating and optimizing supply chain operations to meet customer demand while minimizing costs and maintaining optimal inventory levels. This includes analyzing demand forecasts, managing inventory, collaborating with suppliers, and overseeing production schedules.

The role involves working cross-functionally within the Supply Chain and with leadership stakeholders to execute the optimal supply response based on shared demand forecasts, while reacting to business needs on a weekly basis.

Principal Responsibilities include:
  1. Inventory Management: Maintain optimal inventory levels to meet customer demand while minimizing carrying costs and excess inventory. Monitor inventory levels, track product life cycles, and initiate action plans for surplus or obsolete inventory.
  2. Forecast Distribution: Review, analyze, and release replenishment forecasts to Third Party Vendors (3PV) and Full Package Contractors monthly. Identify supplier gaps and work with the sourcing team to mitigate risk.
  3. Supplier Coordination: Interact with sourcing to ensure timely and accurate delivery of finished goods according to forecasted requirements. Provide critical inputs to sourcing for managing supplier performance, negotiating contracts, and addressing issues related to quality, pricing, or delivery.
  4. Order Management: Process and release planned orders/requisitions to sourcing based on demand forecast, inventory levels, and supplier lead time. Coordinate order fulfillment to ensure timely shipment and delivery of products to customers.
  5. Collaboration and Communication: Work with cross-functional teams such as demand planning, product support/operations, sales, marketing, production, and logistics to align supply chain activities with organizational goals. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding supply chain status, potential issues, and solutions.
  6. Performance Analysis and Improvement: Analyze supply chain performance metrics like fill rates, order accuracy, on-time delivery, and inventory turnover. Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
