Key Responsibilities
Purchasing, Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Own the majority of PTI purchasing for raw materials, plastics/resins, metal feedstock and powders, components, packaging, production supplies, and outside services; directly manage or review purchases exceeding $1,000 unless otherwise delegated.
- Obtain competitive quotations and verify best practical overall value before commitment, considering price, quality, lead time, freight, payment terms, reliability, and total cost rather than unit price alone.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, minimum order quantities, lead times, freight terms, vendor agreements, and longer‑term commercial arrangements within approved authority, escalating material contractual or financial commitments when required.
- Source, qualify, develop, and manage suppliers using performance data for cost, quality, delivery, capacity, responsiveness, certifications, and corrective actions; maintain strategic partnerships with critical vendors and practical continuity plans for high‑risk supply.
- Manage secondary and outsourced‑process suppliers and coordinate with Quality on certifications, nonconformances, corrective actions, and approved supplier requirements.
- Support new and existing program quoting by obtaining current material, component, freight, tooling-related, and outside-service costs, and work with Engineering and Quality to qualify alternate materials or suppliers when appropriate.
- Use ERP/MRP demand, open orders, production schedules, usage, lead times, safety requirements, and inventory levels to determine purchasing timing and quantities; investigate unusual system recommendations before placing significant orders.
- Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, lead‑time, minimum/order‑multiple, and other purchasing master data required for reliable MRP output and purchasing decisions.
- Own inventory‑control strategy, including ABC classifications, cycle‑count frequency and completion, and month‑end or critical close counts when required by Finance.
- Investigate significant or recurring inventory and material‑usage discrepancies with Warehouse, Production, Finance, and other affected functions and correct the underlying transaction, process, or master‑data issue.
- Analyze inventory turns, days on hand, slow‑moving, excess, and obsolete inventory and recommend changes to stocking levels, consumption plans, supplier returns, customer action, or other disposition as appropriate.
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, and the Warehouse Supervisor to ensure materials are available and staged for scheduled jobs and that unused or returned materials are re‑counted, correctly identified, transacted, and returned to controlled inventory.
Warehouse, Logistics, Freight & Trade Compliance
- Directly manage the Warehouse Supervisor and maintain overall accountability for shipping, receiving, inventory accuracy, cycle counting, material staging and return, warehouse cleanliness and 5S, location control, safe shelving/racking, and on‑time customer shipments.
- Ensure warehouse locations are clearly identified, safely maintained, consolidated where practical, and organized to support efficient stocking, replenishment, material flow, space utilization, and accurate inventory control.
- Ensure customer shipments are correctly counted, packaged, labeled, documented, and released with required certificates and customer‑specific paperwork; ensure receiving verifies quantity, condition, identification, purchase‑order requirements, and required documentation.
- Negotiate and manage LTL freight relationships and rates, and oversee FedEx, UPS, and other parcel‑shipping accounts, transactions, billing, carrier performance, and freight‑cost improvement opportunities.
- Oversee customer and supplier returns/RMAs so material movement, documentation, disposition, and ERP transactions are completed accurately and closed in a timely manner.
- Ensure domestic and international shipments follow PTI requirements for ITAR‑controlled product, export controls, customs documentation, export‑license requirements, destination restrictions, and other regulated‑shipping requirements, coordinating with authorized compliance resources when needed.
Cross‑Functional Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Coordinate with Finance, Production, Planning, Engineering/NPD, Quality, Sales, and Warehouse personnel to resolve shortages, supplier issues, inventory exposure, pricing changes, and other conditions that could affect production, margin, or customer delivery.
- Set clear priorities and performance expectations for the Warehouse Supervisor, coach performance, reinforce accountability, and address personnel issues in coordination with the Director of Finance and Human Resources as appropriate.
- Maintain and improve purchasing, inventory, shipping, receiving, supplier‑management, and warehouse standard work; track KPIs and implement corrective actions that improve cost, delivery, inventory accuracy, material availability, freight, and working capital.
