Job summary

General Motors is offering a 12-week summer internship as a Supplier Quality Engineer/Launch Engineer. You will serve as a liaison among GM purchasing, product engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers, addressing quality issues and leading PPAP, Run at Rate, and QMS activities.

You will evaluate supplier plans, engage in root-cause analysis, and support part qualification, with opportunities to lead workshops and drive continuous improvement across the component lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in engineering or related field.
  • Available to work full-time, 40 hours/week, during the 12-week summer internship.
  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2029.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of quality systems or manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • No GM immigration-related sponsorship is available now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in General Motors’ 12-week, project-based Supplier Quality Internship Program.
  • Work as a Supplier Quality Engineer or Supplier Quality Launch Engineer intern.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between GM purchasing, product engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.
  • Resolve supplier manufacturing and quality issues.
  • Implement and monitor Advanced Product Quality Planning, Production Part Approval Process, PPAP, and Run at Rate activities.
  • Review supplier quality plans, control plans, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses.
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Participate in supplier visits to support root-cause analysis and verify corrective actions.
  • Support supplier part qualification and certification activities.
  • Improve supplier quality performance through workshops, technical assistance, and quality-system development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and supplier teams to address quality concerns and project milestones.
  • Analyze trends, evaluate issues, recommend practical solutions, and contribute to continuous improvement projects.
  • Conduct onsite workshops at supplier locations and provide technical support throughout the component lifecycle, including warranty.]

Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial and systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials or metallurgical engineering, quality engineering or management, or a related technical discipline
  • Available to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the 12-week summer internship
  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2029
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge of quality systems, manufacturing processes, or engineering fundamentals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • No GM immigration-related sponsorship is available now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, and J-1 sponsorship
  • Preferred: completion of sophomore or junior year before the internship
  • Preferred: exposure to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or quality engineering tools
  • Preferred: familiarity with engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, or materials science concepts
  • Preferred: prior internship, co-op, academic project, or hands-on manufacturing or automotive experience
  • Preferred: demonstrated initiative, accountability, and ownership
  • Preferred: ability to build relationships across functions and cultures
  • Preferred: customer-focused approach, integrity, and professionalism
