Job summary

Copeland, a global HVACR leader, seeks a Supplier Quality Engineer based in Sidney, Ohio. You will evaluate suppliers, lead audits, and drive quality for new product development and supplier transitions.

This hybrid role requires in-office presence at least three days weekly, with opportunities to mentor interns and strengthen supplier quality across the North American region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with five years of experience.
  • Quality engineering experience including APQP, Flow Charting, Control plans, FMEA, DFM.
  • Statistical Process Control experience.
  • Measurement System Analysis (Gage R&R).
  • Problem Solving; Corrective Action; Process Improvement Techniques.
  • Quality Systems; ISO 9000 and/or TS16949.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications including GD&T.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes used in relevant commodities.
  • Travel up to 15% within North America.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate suppliers by leading/conducting quality system audits using the Copeland Supplier Audit (CSA).
  • Assist with source selection and development. Audit and evaluate technical capabilities of existing and potential suppliers.
  • Monitor and report supplier quality performance trends periodically and implement actions as needed to achieve quality objectives.
  • Process, review and disposition PPAPs, deviations, audit findings, and supplier corrective actions. Ensure supplier controls and processes can produce compliant components. Ensure PFMEA, Control Plans, and other process docs are adequate.
  • Develop and support suppliers through visits, CSA quality audits, process audits, lean projects, and provide manufacturing process technical guidance; follow up on corrective actions.
  • Conduct internal and external training necessary to improve supplier quality.
  • Support new product development programs and supplier transitions; participate in design reviews and provide commodity design improvement suggestions for global sourcing, design/manufacturing optimization, and process/tool design.
  • Supervise co-op / intern students; duties may include selecting candidates, assigning work, mentoring, instructing, evaluating performance.
  • Develop and achieve annual objectives supporting department and company goals.

If you are an ENGINEERING/QUALITY PROFESSIONAL looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Sidney, Ohio location, you will represent Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) to provide relevant inputs for New Product Development programs (NPD) as outlined below.

As a SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER, You Will
  • Evaluate suppliers by leading/conducting quality system audits using the Copeland Supplier Audit (CSA).
  • Assist with source selection and development. Audit and evaluate technical capabilities of existing and potential suppliers.
  • Monitor and report supplier quality performance trends periodically and implement actions as needed to achieve quality objectives.
  • Process, review and disposition PPAPs, deviations, audit findings, and supplier corrective actions. Assure that supplier controls and processes are capable of consistently producing components meeting all requirements. Assure supplier PFMEA, Control Plans, and other process documentation is adequate.
  • Develop and support suppliers through visits, CSA quality audits, process audits, lean projects, providing manufacturing process technical guidance, and other means as appropriate. Follow up with suppliers to assure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Conduct internal and external training necessary to improve supplier quality.
  • Support new product development programs and supplier transitions. Participate in design reviews and provide commodity related design improvement suggestions for global sourcing, design/manufacturing optimization, and process/tool design.
  • Supervise co-op / intern students as required. Duties may include selecting candidates, assigning work, mentoring, instructing, and evaluating performance.
  • Develop and achieve annual objectives supporting overall department and company objectives.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field plus five (5) years of experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience
  • Quality engineering experience including knowledge and experience in:
    • APQP; Flow Charting; Control plans; FMEA; DFM
    • Statistical Process Control
    • Measurement System Analysis (Gage R&R)
    • Problem Solving; Corrective Action; Process Improvement Techniques
    • Quality Systems; ISO 9000 and/or TS16949
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications including GD&T
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes used in relevant commodities
  • Travel up to 15% within North America
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering plus ten (10) years experience
  • Master's Degree in Engineering or MBA
  • Certifications in ASQ (CQA, CQE, CQM)
  • Certified 6 Sigma Green Belt or Equivalent
  • A broad knowledge of various manufacturing processes.
  • Quality Auditing (Systems and processes)
  • Advanced statistics, problem solving and process improvement techniques.
  • Broad knowledge of Copeland LP products such as product function / application, customer expectations, and material properties.
